July is National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month. With warmer weather upon us, more motorists are hitting to the roads of Arkansas. School is out—and many families are taking to the road for extended trips.
With this in mind, Bill Reynolds of Caddell Reynolds Injury Law joined the hosts of Good Day NWA to discuss precautions you can take to keep you and your family safe.
In his comments, Bill noted that July and August are the most dangerous months of the year for traffic deaths—with Arkansas reporting an average of 116 fatalities each day in July alone. He notes some interesting facts:
- More drivers are on the road overall
- Younger drivers drive more in summer
- The most dangerous time is 3:00-7:00 pm
Bill listed a number of precautions you can take to keep you and your family safe. In the discussion, he offered several safety tips to keep drivers safe on the road this season, including:
- Keep your vehicle maintenance current
- Keep your car’s tires properly inflated
- Keep emergency phone numbers on-hand
- Pack a thorough roadside emergency kit
- Always wear seat belts while driving
- Take frequent breaks if you get tired
- Watch for bicyclists and motorcyclists
